Slip on and go
Heel slides have no strap behind the heel, so you are in them in a second. That is exactly why dancers and models like them — they can be swapped between takes. The trade-off for that speed is less security, which you notice on uneven ground.
Clear models
A clear instep is the most common choice on a heel slide. The foot looks as though nothing is holding it, and the shoe all but disappears. A clear instep combined with a clear platform is the boldest look in the whole category.
How much heel they carry
On a heel slide there is no strap above the heel to hold the foot, so the demand on the foot rises with the height. Lower models can be worn normally; the tallest are for the stage and the camera rather than a day of walking.
Materials and finish
A patent instep reflects the light and looks sharpest. Suede and satin read softer and give an expensive impression. Glitter and crystal models come into their own under a spotlight.
When to wear them
To the club and to parties, where you are not covering long distances. To shoots, where shoes need changing quickly. And at home, because heel slides are the simplest way to get used to a high heel.
