A slender silhouette with the toe on the ground
Without a platform the front of the shoe stays on the ground and the whole height goes into the heel. That makes the shoe look lighter and less conspicuous than platform models. The leg reads as longer, because nothing interrupts the eye between toe and heel.
How much height you can carry
The angle of the foot is steeper here than in an equally tall platform shoe, so twelve centimetres without a platform is harder work than fifteen with one. If you are new to heels like these, start lower. A practised foot will carry a slim high heel all evening.
Where they work best
With a long dress, where only the toe and a strap of the shoe show. With formal wear, where a platform would look too club-ready. And with a skirt above the knee, where the line of the instep and the shape of the leg come through.
Materials that work
Patent leather holds its shape and catches the light. Satin reads soft and pairs with a dress in similar fabric. Clear straps let the foot show and lighten the shoe visually even further.
