Two different ways a shoe lights up
LED models have a light built into the platform, charged over USB and switched between several colour modes. UV reactive models do not light up by themselves — they use a material that glows under ultraviolet light. The difference matters: LED works anywhere, UV only where there is a blacklight.
How an LED platform works in practice
A USB charge lasts several hours of use, so a single shift or performance is comfortably covered. The light is controlled by a button on the shoe and can be switched off entirely — at which point the shoe looks like an ordinary platform. That is precisely what makes these models usable outside the club as well.
When to choose UV
If you perform where blacklight is standard, UV reactive material gives a stronger and cleaner effect than LED. White and neon colours genuinely glow under UV. In ordinary light the shoe looks perfectly normal, so it draws no attention until it lights up.
What to watch for
LED models are not made for water, and the charging port needs a dry environment. Check the charge before a performance — a flat LED platform is obvious immediately. And if the clear section picks up scratches, the effect scatters and the light loses its sharpness.
