Straps and platform together
Platform gladiators bring two strong elements together — the strap pattern and a lifted front. The result is the most eye-catching shoe in the whole sandal category. It is also more wearable than you might expect: the platform eases the angle of the foot and the straps hold it firmly in place.
Why you last longer in them
The more straps there are, the more evenly your weight spreads across the foot. Combine that with a platform that reduces the angle underfoot and you get a shoe you can stand in far longer than a single-strap sandal of the same height.
Colours that work
Black is the safest and lets the strap pattern speak. Gold and bronze bring out the classical side and photograph well. White comes alive under UV. And a clear platform beneath coloured straps looks as though nothing is holding the shoe up at all.
How high to go
Lower platforms around three centimetres keep the focus on the straps. Between five and seven centimetres you are in stage territory, where the shoe carries the whole outfit. The tallest models are made for performance, not for walking around town.
Where they belong
On stage and at exotic performances, where the platform protects the instep. In the club, where you will stay on your feet all evening. And at shoots, where a platform gladiator is one of the most rewarding subjects there is.
